RHINOS EXPAND PARTNERSHIP WITH BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF EL PASO IN FREE LEARN TO PLAY PROGRAM

Club Members Will Be Provided with Equipment and Transportation as Part of the Initiative to Provide all El Paso Children with the Opportunity to Play Hockey

(September 2020) – The El Paso Rhinos and the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso are again partnering to ensure that local students have access to positive mentors, resources, and now, the opportunity to play hockey for free!

Rhino Head Coach Cory Herman and Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso’s Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Tomasheski collaborated to offer a free learn to skate/learn to play hockey session once a week for Boys &Girls Club members.

Between December 2020 and May 2021, the Rhinos will supply all equipment and instructors, the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso will oversee registration for its members and provide transportation for participants to and from the rink.

Last season, the Rhinos expanded their Skate Mates educational program to include the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso after-school program. Now, starting in December, on Fridays at 4 pm, Boys & Girls Club members will be able to engage with players while learning how to skate and play hockey at the ice rink.

Cory Herman explained the decision to further develop the Rhinos’ partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso. He said, “In the past, we have worked with the Boys & Girls Clubs Of El Paso, sending players to visit through the Skate Mates program and having members of the Boys & Girls Clubs at Rhino home games. We wanted to offer the Club a special program to make sure that every child in El Paso has the opportunity to play the game of hockey.”

Eager to grow the Rhinos-Boys & Girls Clubs partnership and expand its reach, Anthony Tomasheski expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming program. “This exciting partnership between Boys & Girls Club of El Paso and the Rhinos will provide exciting opportunities for our kids to learn about sportsmanship and teamwork, all while having fun and learning a new sport from world class athletes.”

Throughout registration, transportation and instruction, all participants and coaches will remain socially distant and participants will be provided with equipment that has been thoroughly sanitized before each use.
