Like Friday’s start, John Mulvihill put the Rhinos on the board first when he slipped one past Blazer netminder Jacob Ahl near the midway point of the first period. With less than a minute until intermission, Rhino defenseman Gino Sessa increased the Rhinos’ lead to two.
In the second period, Oklahoma City’s Artem Korolev scored the only goal in the frame and cut the Rhinos’ lead to one. El Paso took their lead back early in the third period when John Mulvihill, with the help of Tristin Maestas and Jacob Robinson, earned his second of the game. Less than a minute later, Blazer Tyler Larsen scored Oklahoma City’s third goal, putting them within one of El Paso. Seconds later, Carter Eha evened the game and forced overtime.
Both teams remained scoreless in overtime until Michael Onda capitalized on a turnover and slipped one past Rhino netminder Cal Hunter with only 37 seconds left in overtime.
After the 4-3 loss, El Paso’s record is 6W-1L-2OTL-1SOL.
The next game for the Rhinos will finally be in Rhino Country on January 1 when they take on the Oklahoma City Blazers again.
