Friday: El Paso Rhinos 10 @ Tulsa Oilers 0 – We’re off to Tulsa this weekend as the Oilers welcome us for the first of two games on their home ice! Right out of the gate Parker Brinner draws first blood and takes a goal within the first minute, signaling to everyone that tonight the Rhinos are out for blood. Austin McPherson doubles our lead over the Oilers by the 11:45 mark, but this was merely the beginning of a Rhino stampede. Nick nunez, Aldiyar Irik, and Carter Tuplin took three goals over the next few minutes and puts the Rhinos out in front with a 5-0 lead with just over four minutes to go in the first period. Oilers catch themselves a slashing penalty at around the three minute mark, giving Kenneth Cadwallader the perfect opportunity for a power play goal. At the end of the first the Oilers trail behind the Rhinos with a 6-0 lead.
Right after returning to the ice Cadwallader snags himself yet another goal just 30 seconds in to the period. Irik and Tuplin also make their presence known, each taking their second goals and putting the Rhinos up 9-0 halfway through the second. Oilers manage to shore up and bolster their defense to prevent any more pucks in the net for this period, but we head in to the third period with Rhinos still out on top. Andre Valenzuela hammers the final nail into the coffin with a goal at 13:01, giving the Rhinos a whopping 10-0 victory over the Oilers for Game #1.
Saturday: El Paso Rhinos 9 @ Tulsa Oilers 0 – Rhinos & OIlers are back on the ice tonight after last night’s blowout eager to get back to the action. Oilers took some lessons from last night’s beating and prep their defenses early, keeping the Rhinos at bay for the first half of the period. It wouldn’t be until Mikhail Levaniuk puts the Rhinos on the board with 8:02 left to go on the clock and setting the score at 1-0. Carter Tuplin brings himself to the net and takes a goal for himself at 6:36, followed just a minute later by Parker Brinner, increasing the lead to 3-0 at the end of the first period.
Rhinos chip away at Tulsa’s defensive wall and the cracks begin to form as Carter Lehmann breaks through at just over four minutes into the third. scoring lights the beacon for his team to follow. Now at 4-0 the Rhinos begin their campaign to overwhelm the Oilers, starting with Lehmann yet again taking a goal, followed over the next two minutes by Benjamin Green and Aldiyar Irik for two more goals. 7-0 now with the second period winding down Tuplin takes yet another goal. With 14 seconds left on the clock Mikhail Levaniuk makes it 9-0.
Unfortunately for our boys, the Oilers regain their footing and prevent any more scoring for the rest of the game, but with no goals of their own the Rhinos walk away with a 9-0 victory in Game #2.
